The ultimate goal of home&community
is to assist low-income communities by being that single, easily accessible
resource that brings together the passion for community change with
the empowering resources for change.
That is why we promote a holistic approach to organizing. A holistic
approach requires the active participation of residents and non-residents.
It demands that non-residents who live outside the physical boundaries
of a specific community view themselves as stakeholders in that community's
development and success.
It is critical that this resident/non-resident coalescing of interest
occurs. It is not enough to rely on the passion and local knowledge
of residents or the political and economic influence and expert knowledge
of non-residents. Both must be joined to create the climate for meaningful,
holistic change -- to bring "home" back to the community.
Passion will drive the process; knowledge will guide the process.
