On November 6, 2010, we held a community raising dinner -- our inaugural fundraiser  -- for the OriginalGreen project and we did it again!

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our Slow Food, Sol Food gathering on February 19th.  Even if folks didn’t consider themselves activists before they arrived, participating in the evening showed a commitment to community change (along with an appreciation for Spanish tapas, paella and sangria!).  Our next community raising dinner is scheduled for sometime in May, and is sure to be as lively, informative and entertaining as the first two events.

A special thank you goes out to DJ Kiino Villand for wonderful background music and author Dana Johnson (winner of the Flannery O’Connor award for short fiction) for a truly electric storytelling vignette.

Meanwhile, take a look at some images from our November event below. And, join us on Facebook or check back often to stay informed about upcoming events in the series.

What is the Urban Homesteading and Community Food System Project?
We’re bringing together members of local communities (in particular low and moderate income communities) to grow, cook, and clean in a more sustainable way.  We connect people with one another – via community meetings and online – to share skills and food.  And, we provide training to integrate local food production, distribution and consumption. The benefits of our work include community building, increased access to healthy food options in communities that suffer health affects of poor nutrition, and improving indoor air quality by reducing reliance on chemicals in the home.
